The latest ABC release for the January-June 2015 results allows us to see the latest trends in the consumer magazine market. With sales on newsstand dropping, ABC is growing in importance, as magazines revenue relies more on advertisement.
Womens Lifestyle declines were moderate in comparison to other markets. The largest of these was for Look magazine which saw a drop of 15.3% PoP, and 22% YoY. The top spots were filled by free titles, John Lewis Edition and ASOS.com, followed by Good Housekeeping.
News and Current Affairs did better, particularly in comparison to January 2015 results. Private Eye was up 4% PoP, with a total circulation of almost 228,300. The Week was up 1.4% PoP, with a circulation of 202,800, its 34th consecutive ABC increase. The Week Magazine, which shares the same publisher as The Week, was also up a commendable 11.3% PoP and 17% YoY.
Other previously popular markets including, Mens Lifestyle, Womens Weeklies and TV Listings saw considerable declines. The only titles that increased for TV Listings was TV Choice, by just 0.8% and Northern & Shells OK! magazine saw the largest decrease in its market, down 31.6% PoP, and 26.6% YoY. Overall Womens Weeklies as a group did not have a single title increase over the period.
