Publishing group Local World has partnered with Google to launch ten new apps.
Local World has announced plans to partner with Google to launch ten new newspaper apps, targeted at evening newspapers.
The app editions of the affected newspapers will be sent out every working day at 5pm to Android tablets and mobiles.
The content will be a "digestible collection of the most important and entertaining content" from the local area, a statement said.
Local World has said that there are plans to launch the apps on Apple products later this year.
The current apps do not contain any advertising, although Local World has not ruled out using advertisements in the future.
News apps have been created, currently, for: the South Wales Evening Post, Nottingham Post, Cambridge News, Derby Telegraph, Bristol Post, Gloucestershire Echo, Hull Daily Mail, Stoke Sentinel, Leicester Mercury and the Plymouth Herald.
The partnership between Google and Local World has taken place under Google's Digital News Initiative, which was announced in April.
The scheme involves Google offering £108M in funding to help news publishers across Europe "develop more sustainable models for news."
"So many readers and journalists grew up with the evening edition of their local paper being the pulse of their city. Weve taken the essence of this and worked very hard with Google to develop a simple and brilliant new set of apps that will inform and entertain our readers on their way back from work every evening. said Matt Kelly, group digital director at Local World.
