Study Finds The Independent Is Most Talked About UK Newspaper
A Brandwatch study has found that The Independent is the UK newspaper that is most discussed on social media.
Brandwatch has revealed results of a study into social media, which shows that The Independent is the most talked about UK newspaper on all social media.
The same research also revealed that newspapers generally perform better in terms of social media discussion than television and radio brands.
Brandwatch uses the term "buzz" to refer to any conversation held on social networking platforms about brands.
It found that of newspapers, radio and television, it was newspapers that made up 61% of Twitter "buzz".
"Buzz" is judged on mentions from Twitter, Facebook, Forums, News articles, Blogs and other websites.
The next best performing brands, after The Independent, were Capital FM, Radio 1 and ITV.
These were followed by other newspaper brands: The Guardian and The Telegraph.
The study was carried out between January and February 2015, and revealed that the most popular national newspapers were The Independent and The Guardian in terms of Twitter followers and Facebook likes.
It was these two newspapers, however, that had the smallest circulations of any newspaper included in the study.
Brandwatch looked at 1.2M UK based mentions of the ten biggest newspapers between 1st January and 28th February, to create this study.
The study is entitled "Social Listening in practice / How social changed the newspaper industry."
