The Sun's website saw around 2M unique browsers per day, according to the latest ABC figures.
Despite this, The Sun still has less than half the monthly browsers of The Mirror, which saw an average of 4.2M daily browsers in the same month.
The Sun ended its online paywall in November 2015, and is planning a major relaunch of it's website.
The Sun has also recently been recruiting a number of new editorial staff
The fastest growing national newspaper website, according to the latest ABC figures, was Express.co.uk which saw a 40.3% year on year increase to 1.2M unique daily browsers.
The Independent also saw strong year on year growth, up ti 2.9M average daily browsers.
This is a 22% increase for the Independent, despite the fact that the printed edition will be ending on 26th March 2016.
The Mail Online remains the top national newspaper for unique daily browsers, with 14.3M seen globally, according to the latest ABC figures.
The Guardian also saw growth of 21% year on year to 8.9M unique daily browsers.
