The Mirror Plans Changes to Production and Sports Contracts
With print revenue dropping each ABC audit, it is unsurprising that publishers are making changes to keep up.
The Daily Mirror has launched a consultation on working hours, which will affect over 100 production and sport staff, in a bid to save millions. The plan is to move from working four nights a week to a nine-day fortnight. Although there may be some redundancies, the aim is to reduce the amount of money spent on casual staff.
This shift also marks another move from Trinity Mirror to fully integrate staff across all of their three titles. Trinity Mirror is rumoured to be separately making some staff redundant however it is said to be no more than a dozen.
Trinity Mirror has around 450 editorial staff across all its titles and website. But the new change will affect about 40 members on news and features production, and 60 in sport.
Trinity Mirror has also recently introduced a superdesk, to increase digital-focused journalist resource.
A spokesperson from Trinity Mirror commented, We have announced a number of proposed changes to the Mirror newsroom as part of our on-going company-wide efficiencies. They continued, We are also realising further efficiencies by merging some more support between the daily and Sunday teams.
