In an attempt to attract young readers, the Time Inc title has introduced online verticals.
Verticals including SI Edge, which covers action sports and Extra Mustard, which covers pop culture have been introduced in recent years.
Now, Tech & Media has been launched by the title.
Tech & Meida will cover the latest on tech innovations, ideas and gear transforming fan experiences, player performance and the sports industry as a whole.
Chris Stone, Sports Illustrated's Editorial Director, said: Tech has become essential to the sports narrative and the individual sports themselves. Its not only apparent in the way teams and players are leveraging technology to gain a competitive advantage but the interaction with technology in our everyday lives.
Continuing with the tech theme, Sports Illustrated have also introduced Facebook live streaming and Snapchat into their strategy.
Stone said: We want our viewers to see the people were writing about and let them tell the stories were telling."
Five staff, including four new appointments, will work on Tech & Media, with daily content also coming from niche site SportTechie.
