IPSO Receives Most Complaints About Unregulated Guardian
The Independent Press Standards Organisation has said that the majority of complaints about unregulated national newspapers are about The Guardian.
IPSO has stated that of more than 500 complaints about unregulated national newspaper, the majority were about The Guardian.
IPSO replaced the Press Complaints Commission in September 2014.
The Guardian, Observer, Financial Times, the Independent titles and the Evening Standard have not signed up to IPSO.
Titles not signed up to IPSO must regulate themselves.
The 500 complaints IPSO have received about unregulated newspapers came from online submissions. Telephone complaints are not accepted.
Of the 500 complaints received by IPSO about unregulated newspapers, 407 were about The Guardian.
262 of the 407 complaints about The Guardian were in relation to the cartoon of Nicola Sturgeon (leader of the Scottish Nation Party) and Alex Salmond (former leader of the Scottish National Party) by Steve Bell, which was accused of being racist.
The Independent was the subject of 84 complaints, while the Evening Standard received 37 complaints.
4 complaints were made to IPSO about The Observer and just 2 complaints were made about the Financial Times.
