Johnston Press Purchases Brighton Independent Title
The Brighton and Hove Independent has been purchased by regional newspaper publisher Johnston Press.
Johnston Press will now be competing with Newsquest in Brighton, following the purchase of The Brighton and Hove Independent.
Newsquest is publisher of The Argus, which has a daily paid circulation of 5, 360 copies in Brighton and Hove.
The Leader, a free weekly, is also published by Newsquest. It has a free distribution of around 50, 000 households in Brighton and Hove.
The Brighton and Hove Independent was launched in 2011 by Mark Ansell.
The Brighton and Hove Independent is distributed in 300 locations across Brighton and Hove, and has a free circulation total of around 13, 000.
Greg Hadfield, former Sunday Times news editor, is the editorial director for the local title.
The Brighton and Hove Independent will join the Hastings Observer, Eastbourne Herald, Worthing Herald and Mid Sussex Times as a Newsquest title in Sussex.
