Newsquest Outsources Production of Berkshire Titles
Despite recently acquiring Berkshire Media Group, Newsquest has revealed plans to outsource production of the titles.
Newsquest purchased Berkshire Media Group just two months ago, and is already planning to outsource both production and subbing to Newport, Southampton and India.
Due to these changes, six production jobs will be cut across the Berkshire titles.
In addition to this, seven jobs will be cut across news, sport, photography and management. These seven jobs will be transferred to the Oxford Mail and at other Newsquest titles in Oxfordshire.
Two photography positions are also at risk of redundancy at Newsquest in Bournemouth.
Newsquest purchased Romanes Media Group, owners of Berkshire Media Group, in May 2015.
Berkshire Media Group publishes titles including the Slough Observer, Bracknell News and the Reading Chronicle.
Despite jobs cuts, the new role of 'new media support officer' has been created.
Since the acquisition of Berkshire Media Group, Southern Daily Echo editor Ian Murray has taken editorial responsibly for the six Berkshire titles.
These six titles have been added to Murray's already full portfolio, which includes three Hampshire titles for which he took responsibility in February 2015.
