The Daily Mail Increases Cover Price

The weekly cover price of The Daily Mail is to increase from 60p to 65p.

The price increase is the first in three years for The Daily Mail.

In February 2013, the cover price rose from 55p to 60p. The increase to 65p makes The Daily Mail the most expensive tabloid newspaper in the UK.

The cover price of the weekly edition of the national newspaper is to increase from 60p to 65p as of February 2016.

The price increase is said to be down to a drop in circulation revenue.

Daily Mail and General Trust (GMGT) has reported that circulation revenue was down 4% year on year in its first quarter (the three months to 31st December 2015).

A 14% year on year decline in print advertising revenue was also reported for Mail newspapers.

Print advertising revenue was down to £41M, a £7M loss in the same quarter.

Despite this, online advertising revenue for Mail Online has grown 27% year on year in the same period.

Mail Online boasts £23M in advertising revenue for the three months to 31st December 2015.

During this period, DMGT's 39% share in Local World was purchased by Trinity Mirror for £73M.
