The Guardian Loses Journalists To Vice UK

Vice UK has gained a managing editor an an editor in chief in the form of two former Guardian journalists.

After four years at The Guardian, Rebecca Nicholson is leaving to join Vice UK as editor in chief.

Nicholson was live features editor at The Guardian, and also previously worked as a TV and radio editor.

She will be joined at Vice UK by colleague Jenny Stevens, who will become managing editor.

Stevens currently works as commissioning editor for culture at The Guardian.

The news that both Nicholson and Stevens are leaving The Guardian comes after a string of journalists have left the title to join newer media brands, both online and in print.

Most prolifically, The Guardian has lost several journalists to Buzzfeed UK.

Stuart Millar, former head of news at The Guardian, and Janine Gibson, former deputy editor, both left for Buzzfeed UK along with James Ball, former special projects editor.

On her departure, Nicholson said: “After learning a huge amount during my time at the Guardian, I'm incredibly excited to be joining Vice UK and getting involved with its unique and frank approach to such a variety of stories. Vice UK has changed a lot over the last few years and I can't wait to work with its outstanding team of young journalists on shaping the next incarnation. With more original reporting, a louder voice in British media and a focus on bringing even more diversity to its broad range of writers, we'll ensure that the sharpest, biggest, and best stories are being told as only Vice."
