Latest ABC figures show that The Times was the only national title to increase circulation in October.

The Times was the only UK national newspaper title to grow its circulation last month.

An average of 394, 240 copies per day were sold by The Times in October 2015, which was a 0.36% year on year increase.

Although it was the only title to increase circulation, The Times owes its growth to an increase in free bulk copy distribution.

The number of bulk copies distributed for free in October 2015 went up from 22, 296 to 23, 828.

Although The Times was the only title to grow circulation, The Sun managed to reduce its rate of decline and improve market share against the Daily Mirror.

This was the first full month that The Sun was audited by ABC with Tony Gallagher as editor.

An 8.7% fall in circulation year on year was recorded by The Sun in the latest ABC figures, while the Daily Mirror saw a fall of 10.7% year on year.

The Sun's reduced rate of decline was helped by an increase in bulk free distributed copies.

The number of free bulk copies distributed by The Sun in October 2015 was 15, 068 compared to the 2, 038 that were seen in September of the same year.

 

The Sun on Sunday also had a good month, in terms of year on year decline.

The Sun on Sunday saw a 6.6% drop in circulation figures, while the Sunday Mirror's circulation figures dropped 12.5% and The Sunday People's figures dropped 17%.
