Trinity Mirror and The Bureau of Investigative Journalism have received backing from Google.
Six figure sums have been awarded to both Trinity Mirror and The Bureau of Investigative Journalism as part of the Google Digital News Initiative (DNI).
Trinity Mirror received backing for it's news aggregation app, while The Bureau of Investigative Journalism received the sum for a new data project.
In a collaboration between Google and news publishers in Europe, the tech giant will be supporting innovative journalism.
DNI will be providing £119M of funding in total, to both large companies and small start-ups.
Trinity Mirror's app Perspecs, which is being funded by Google, aims to give readers different angles on news stories.
The funding and recognition from Google is a huge boost for Perspecs. It opens up a number of opportunities to help us build our audience and further develop the infrastructure and reach of the app.
Currently the app is in beta, so the funding also enables us to focus on building a more stable, scalable and feature rich product. The DNI is about supporting innovative digital journalism which sparks new thinking, so were really pleased to be recognised in that bracket. said head of product at Trinity Mirror, Darren Sher.
