Teen titles may be reaching expiry in print, but could have a future online.
Director of print buying at Follon, Carol Pais Hammond, said: There is a future for teen magazines in print, but I doubt it will look like the present landscape. It will evolve, as with most media, to adapt to the nature of the content and the media consumption habits of the audience.
She believes that the majority of teen titles will become a series of special, more sporadic print editions in future, which focus on big events such as prom, or back-to-school.
She goes on to say: perhaps the only ones that will survive [as regular editions] will be those that are truly indie versus mass, and theyll serve more as collectors items or subculture manifestos."
Seventeen and Teen Vogue are the top remaining teen print titles, also ranking first and second online among teen worldwide.
